Fern Hill Loop![]() This one is special… a local’s favorite and one of Queenstown’s most amazing natural single tracks. Fern Hill Loop is not part of the Queenstown Bike Park, and indeed, you need to do some work to get there, but the rewards are well worth the effort. From the midway clearing follow the signs to Fern Hill Loop, or jump on the track (if you recognize it) from Hammy’s a bit further up. Ride up through the pines until they turn to Beech forest and then ride some more. Eventually this more or less straight ahead trail will lead you to a river crossing. Above the river crossing it is all pushing (unless you are a world class trials rider) over the massive roots of this natural and ancient Beech forest. After a fair amount of pushing (and don’t forget to study your line for the way down, this is an up and back) you will reach a clearing with a magnificent view of the lake and the Remarkables. Now simply turn around and let rip. Careful of walkers and try not to use the brakes too much! A little speed makes the roots a lot smoother… |
