My 4 run day!
These guys don’t lie. This experience will live with you for the rest of your life. I struggle to find words to explain what it’s like once you hop out of the helicopter and onto the ridge for the first time.
It starts off in the morning with the van picking you up from your accommodation provider where you are taken to the staging point. Here you are introduced to the guides, these guys have the best jobs in the world!! They point out the safety issues and also have a short course on how to use the avalanche transceiver and entering and exiting the helicopter.
Training done and adrenalin levels rising we huddle together to wait for the chopper to land.
We hop in and head into some of the most amazing scenery you will ever see.
You feel on top of the world...and the helicopter perches on a ridgeline and you hop onto the ridge. The heli flys away and then there’s complete silence, its magic! You are buzzing with anticipation as all you see around you is snow capped mountains and untouched snow in front of you; a skiers and boarders paradise. You kit up and then the guide tells you where to go. The feeling of gliding in the foot deep powder is just amazing. You are grinning from ear to ear and just want to shout at the top of you lungs as you are flying down the hillside with your legs burning.
Reaching the bottom of the run, you are raring to go again. Time seems to fly by! The chopper lands, you all hop in and start reminiscing about the last run and what the next one has in store. Back to the top to do it all over again.
After a couple of runs, lunch is provided on a snow table over looking the most amazing scenery. Soup, hot drinks, oj, fruit platters and being able to make your own rolls is just the icing on the cake. A meal fit for kings.
We are now all fuelled up for the afternoon ahead. Chopper lands and we are off again. After a few more runs the end of the day draws near...you don’t want the day to finish...and it doesn’t have to.. The guide pipes up who’s up for another run! Only $90!! This is just to hard to pass up. A few of us are back in the chopper for that extra run!
The helicopter lands at the staging point and everyone enters the van, the ride home is electric with people telling their heliski story and sharing photos. You want to do it all over again tomorrow, but unfortunately some of us have to work....
